Overview
UP GM 205 is the designation under the international standard EN 60893 for the same product traditionally designated HM 2472 R under DIN 7735 in Germany - both standard designations refer to the same special grade. Because both the EN and the DIN designation are in common use on the market, we maintain two content-identical pages for this material - one under UP GM 205, one under HM 2472 R - so you can find it under either name. It is the R grade of the hartmatte grade UP GM 204 (Hm 2472), with an identical temperature limit class of 155 °C.
Hard laminates (HM) or glass-mat reinforced polyester resin laminates (UP GM) belong to the family of thermoset industrial laminates: glass-fibre mats are impregnated with unsaturated polyester resin and pressed under heat and pressure into sheets, rods or tubes. Despite research, no separate, publicly available numerical data sheet could be found for the R grade UP GM 205 (HM 2472 R); one manufacturer describes it only qualitatively as a grade with very good mechanical and electrical properties at a limiting temperature of 155 °C - matching the limiting temperature of Hm 2472. The numerical values stated in this table are therefore researched on the basis of the related grade UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) and serve as guidance for material selection; a specific, documented additional property attributable to the R designation is not substantiated and is not claimed here. The grade UP GM 203 (Hm 2471) also belongs to the same material family.
At Liedtke Kunststofftechnik we machine precision parts from sheets, rods or tubes - sawing, milling, drilling and turning can be carried out cleanly and accurately with sharp, carbide-tipped tools; because of the abrasive glass-fibre content, increased tool wear should be expected, and we ensure adequate dust extraction on every job. Typical applications are found in electrical engineering and switchgear construction, in mechanical and plant engineering, and in jig and tool making.

Frequently Asked Questions about UP GM 205 (HM 2472 R)
1What is UP GM 205 (HM 2472 R)?+
UP GM 205 is the EN 60893 designation for the same material known under DIN 7735 as HM 2472 R - one and the same product under two standard designations that are both common on the market. It is the R grade of the hartmatte grade UP GM 204 (Hm 2472), with an identical temperature limit class of 155 °C. No separate, publicly available numerical data sheet exists for the specific R grade; the values stated are therefore based on the related grade UP GM 204 (Hm 2472).
2How is UP GM 205 (HM 2472 R) machined at Liedtke?+
We machine UP GM 205 (HM 2472 R) cleanly and accurately with sharp, carbide-tipped tools - sawing, milling, drilling and turning are part of our daily business. Because of the abrasive glass-fibre content, increased tool wear should be expected, which is why we ensure adequate dust extraction. This allows us to reliably manufacture mechanically and electrically resilient insulating and structural parts, from single items to series production.
3What determines the price of a UP GM 205 (HM 2472 R) part?+
Component price is determined mainly by sheet thickness or rod diameter, dimensions, material utilisation (offcut), machining effort and batch size. We are happy to quote binding prices on request based on your drawing.
4When is UP GM 205 (HM 2472 R) not the right choice?+
UP GM 205 (HM 2472 R) is not declared suitable for direct food contact. No separate numerical data sheet exists for applications that require a documented, manufacturer-confirmed additional property of the R grade - we recommend consultation in such cases. The material is also unsuitable for continuous use above approximately 155 °C or for transparent or coloured finishes, as the grade is only available in white.
