Overview
UP GM 204 is the designation under the international standard EN 60893 for the same product traditionally designated Hm 2472 under DIN 7735 in Germany - both standard designations refer to one and the same material. Because both the EN and the DIN designation are in common use on the market, we maintain two content-identical pages for this material - one under UP GM 204, one under Hm 2472 - so you can find it under either name. UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) is the mechanically upgraded grade of the glass-mat reinforced polyester hard laminate within the UP GM 203 (Hm 2471) material family, offering higher flexural and tensile strength than the standard grade as well as a higher limiting temperature of 155 °C (thermal class F).
Like the entire hartmatte family, UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) is produced by pressing resin-impregnated glass-fibre mats into sheets or rods; the reinforcing material is the glass-fibre mat, the bonding resin an unsaturated polyester resin. Unlike thermoplastics, the cured thermoset does not melt but remains dimensionally stable, hard and mechanically resilient. Compared with the standard grade UP GM 203 (Hm 2471) - limiting temperature 130 °C - the limiting temperature of UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) is 25 °C higher; for general electrical insulation applications up to 130 °C, UP GM 203 (Hm 2471) remains the more economical option, while UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) is the more suitable choice for elevated thermal or mechanical requirements.
At Liedtke Kunststofftechnik we machine precision parts from sheets and rods - sawing, milling, drilling and turning can be carried out cleanly and accurately with sharp, carbide-tipped tools; because of the abrasive glass-fibre content we use wear-resistant tools and adequate dust extraction. Typical applications are found in electrical engineering and switchgear construction with elevated thermal duty, in transformer and electrical machine engineering, and in general jig and tool making.

Frequently Asked Questions about UP GM 204 (Hm 2472)
1What is UP GM 204 (Hm 2472)?+
UP GM 204 is the EN 60893 designation for the same glass-mat reinforced polyester hard laminate known under DIN 7735 as Hm 2472. It is one and the same product under two standard designations that are both common on the market. Compared with the standard grade UP GM 203 (Hm 2471), UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) offers higher flexural and tensile strength as well as a higher limiting temperature of 155 °C (thermal class F).
2How is UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) machined at Liedtke?+
We machine precision parts from sheets and rods - sawing, milling, drilling and turning can be carried out cleanly and accurately with sharp, carbide-tipped tools. Because of the abrasive glass-fibre content we use wear-resistant tools and ensure adequate dust extraction. This allows us to reliably produce high-quality insulating and structural parts, from single items to series production.
3What determines the price of a UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) part?+
Component price is determined mainly by sheet thickness or rod diameter, dimensions, material utilisation (offcut), machining effort and batch size. Due to its upgraded mechanical and thermal properties, UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) falls in the upper price segment of the hartmatte series. We are happy to quote binding prices on request based on your drawing.
4When is UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) not the right choice?+
UP GM 204 (Hm 2472) is not declared suitable for direct food contact. For general applications without elevated thermal or mechanical requirements, the more economical standard grade UP GM 203 (Hm 2471) is sufficient. The thermoset material is also unsuitable for non-machining forming or welding processes.
