Machining PF CP 203 (Hp 2061.6)

PF CP 203 is the EN 60893 designation for the hot-punchable phenolic paper laminate Hp 2061.6 per DIN 7735 – the grade of the phenolic paper laminate series with the lowest water absorption.

Material

Overview

PF CP 203 (Hp 2061.6) is made of phenolic resin reinforced with cellulose paper. Paper webs are impregnated with the resin and pressed into sheets, rods, or tubes under heat and pressure. The cured thermoset no longer melts but remains dimensionally stable, hard, and mechanically strong; the color is typically brown.

PF CP 203 is the designation per EN 60893, Hp 2061.6 the designation per the older DIN 7735 – both denote technically the same material. Since both standard designations are common in the market, Liedtke Kunststofftechnik lists this material under both names as a standalone page. PF CP 203 (Hp 2061.6) is the hot-punchable grade (NEMA XXP) within the PF-CP series (PF CP 201–206) and has by far the lowest water absorption of the family (60 mg at 4 mm, versus 120–300 mg for other grades) – ideal for insulating parts that need to be reliably punched while remaining especially moisture-resistant. By comparison: PF CP 201 (Hp 2061) is the economical standard grade, PF CP 202 (Hp 2061.5) the electrically improved grade with the highest test voltage (40 kV), PF CP 204 (Hp 2063) the flame-retardant grade (UL 94 V-0, “FR-2”), and PF CP 205 / PF CP 206 (Hp 2062.9 / Hp 2062.8) the economical punching grades without high mechanical requirements.

PF CP 203 (Hp 2061.6) machines well by hot punching as well as sawing, milling, and drilling with sharp, carbide-tipped tools. The low moisture absorption ensures high dimensional accuracy. Typical applications are hot-punched electrical insulating parts, carrier plates and insulating pieces in switchgear construction, spacer and insulating washers, punched parts for electrical engineering, and insulating parts in moisture-sensitive assemblies.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions about PF CP 203 (Hp 2061.6)

1What is PF CP 203 (Hp 2061.6)?+

PF CP 203 is the EN 60893 designation for the phenolic paper laminate known under the older DIN 7735 standard as Hp 2061.6 – technically the same material. It is the hot-punchable special grade (NEMA XXP) within the PF-CP series and has by far the lowest water absorption of the entire family.

2How does Liedtke machine PF CP 203 (Hp 2061.6)?+

PF CP 203 (Hp 2061.6) machines well by hot punching as well as sawing, milling, drilling and turning with sharp, carbide-tipped tools. Thanks to its low moisture absorption, parts remain especially dimensionally accurate. We ensure adequate dust extraction during machining.

3What determines the price of a PF CP 203 part?+

The price of a PF CP 203 part is determined mainly by sheet thickness, dimensions, material utilisation, machining effort and batch size. Since PF CP 203 is specifically designed for hot punching, series parts can often be produced particularly economically – we provide a binding quote based on your drawing or sample.

4When is PF CP 203 (Hp 2061.6) not the right choice?+

PF CP 203 (Hp 2061.6) is not declared suitable for direct food contact. If a flame-retardant grade is required, PF CP 204 (Hp 2063, UL 94 V-0) is the right choice. For high mechanical strength requirements, PF CP 201 (Hp 2061) is better suited, and for higher dielectric strength, PF CP 202 (Hp 2061.5).
