PBT natural in detail
1What is PBT natural?+
PBT natural is a material of the PBT type (polybutylene terephthalate). It is characterised by high dimensional stability and low creep as well as good electrical insulating properties.
2How does Liedtke machine PBT natural?+
Like other engineering thermoplastics, PBT natural can be machined using all conventional cutting methods (sawing, turning, drilling, milling, planing, grinding). Unreinforced grades can be machined with HSS tools; glass-fibre reinforced or filled grades require carbide tools. Good cooling via chip removal is important to avoid softening or smearing of the surface caused by heat build-up.
3When should I choose PBT natural?+
PBT natural is mainly used wherever high dimensional stability, low creep and good electrical insulating properties are required:
- Electrical Industry
- Vehicle Construction
- Mechanical Engineering
4What determines the price of a PBT natural part?+
PBT natural is calculated individually based on drawing or sample. The part price is mainly determined by the stock form and dimension, material utilisation (waste), machining effort and batch size. We are happy to quote binding prices on request.
5When is PBT natural not the right choice?+
The source documents do not list a separate set of disadvantages for PBT natural. Based on the data:
- The heat deflection temperature is only 67 °C, noticeably lower than glass-fibre reinforced PBT grades
- For parts under high continuous mechanical load at elevated temperatures, or where maximum stiffness is required, PBT GF30 is usually the better choice
6Advantages and disadvantages of PBT natural+
The source documents list only advantages for PBT natural, no separate set of disadvantages:
- Advantage: High dimensional stability and low creep
- Advantage: Good electrical insulating properties
- Advantage: Good chemical resistance
- Advantage: Low moisture absorption
Typical properties
- High dimensional stability and low creep
- Good electrical insulating properties
