What is PBT GF30 natural?
PBT GF30 is a special compound based on polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), reinforced with 30 % glass fibres. The glass-fibre reinforcement markedly increases stiffness and strength compared to unreinforced PBT, while retaining very low moisture absorption and high dimensional stability.

PBT GF30 natural in detail
1What is PBT GF30 natural?+
PBT GF30 is a special compound based on polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), reinforced with 30 % glass fibres. The glass-fibre reinforcement markedly increases stiffness and strength compared to unreinforced PBT, while retaining very low moisture absorption and high dimensional stability. PBT is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic with good chemical resistance and good electrical insulation properties; the glass-fibre reinforcement reduces elongation at break. Unlike polyamides, PBT absorbs very little moisture.
2How does Liedtke machine PBT GF30 natural?+
PBT GF30 natural can be machined using all conventional cutting methods. The glass-fibre content causes faster tool wear than with unreinforced PBT; carbide tools and good extraction of the abrasive dust are recommended. Because PBT GF30 absorbs very little moisture, conditioning before machining is generally not required.
3When should I choose PBT GF30 natural?+
PBT GF30 natural is used wherever high stiffness, dimensional stability and good electrical insulation properties are required:
- Components for the electrical and electronics industry
- Connectors and insulating parts
- Structural components in mechanical engineering
- Components in vehicle construction
4What determines the price of a PBT GF30 natural part?+
PBT GF30 natural is calculated individually based on drawing or sample. The part price is mainly determined by the stock form and dimension, material utilisation (waste), machining effort and batch size. We are happy to quote binding prices on request.
5When is PBT GF30 natural not the right choice?+
Just as important are the limits of the material:
- Lower elongation at break than unreinforced PBT
- Not resistant to hot water and alkalis (hydrolysis)
- Not generally declared for food contact (see FDA declaration)
6Advantages and disadvantages of PBT GF30 natural+
An honest assessment:
- Advantage: High stiffness through 30 % glass-fibre reinforcement
- Advantage: Very low moisture absorption, high dimensional stability
- Advantage: Good electrical insulation properties
- Advantage: Good chemical resistance
- Disadvantage: Lower elongation at break than unreinforced PBT
- Disadvantage: Not resistant to hot water and alkalis (hydrolysis)
- Disadvantage: Not generally declared for food contact (see FDA declaration)
Typical properties
- Glass-fibre reinforced PBT compound with high stiffness
- Very low moisture absorption, high dimensional stability
Typical industries
- Electronics
- Mechanical Engineering
- Vehicle Construction
