Overview
MF GC 201 is the EN 60893 designation for the same product listed in Germany under the DIN 7735 designation Hgw 2272. As with all of Liedtke's melamine- and phenolic-resin laminates: EN 60893 and DIN 7735 describe technically identical material, differing only in the underlying standard - EN 60893 being the international standard and DIN 7735 the older, purely German one. Because both designations appear in drawings and specifications, Liedtke Kunststofftechnik deliberately lists the material under both names.
MF GC 201 (Hgw 2272) belongs to the family of glass-fabric laminates: glass-fabric layers are impregnated with melamine resin and pressed under heat and pressure into sheets or round bars. The melamine-resin matrix gives the material the highest tracking resistance (CTI 600) of any laminate grade in Liedtke's range, combined with flame-retardant behaviour (UL 94 V-0) and a light, white colour.
MF GC 201 differs from its cotton-reinforced sister grade MF CC 201 (Hgw 2282.5) in its reinforcing carrier: the glass-fabric reinforcement significantly increases mechanical strength and dimensional stability, but - unlike MF CC 201 - excludes the declaration for direct food contact. Compared with the epoxy-resin-bonded Hgw 2372.1, MF GC 201 has somewhat lower mechanical strength, but its tracking resistance (CTI 600 versus CTI 200-220) clearly exceeds every other glass-fabric laminate in the range.
Produced from melamine-resin-impregnated glass-fabric semi-finished products, Liedtke Kunststofftechnik machines precision parts from MF GC 201 - sawing, milling, drilling and turning with sharp, carbide-tipped or diamond-coated tools. Typical applications include terminals, sockets and connectors in low-voltage switchgear technology and insulating parts in test and measurement engineering.

Frequently Asked Questions about MF GC 201
1What is MF GC 201?+
MF GC 201 is the EN 60893 designation for a glass-fabric-reinforced melamine-resin laminate with very high tracking resistance (CTI 600) and flame-retardant behaviour (UL 94 V-0). It is exactly the same material that the older German standard DIN 7735 designates as Hgw 2272 - both names refer to the same material. Liedtke Kunststofftechnik lists the material under both designations so it can be found regardless of which standard your documentation references.
2How does Liedtke machine MF GC 201?+
MF GC 201 machines well. Sawing, milling, drilling and turning produce clean, dimensionally accurate results with sharp, carbide-tipped or diamond-coated tools. During machining we ensure adequate dust extraction, since resin and glass-fibre dust is generated that can cause mechanical skin irritation. This is how we reliably produce tracking-resistant, flame-retardant insulating parts - from single pieces to series production.
3What determines the price of an MF GC 201 part?+
MF GC 201 (Hgw 2272) is priced between standard phenolic-resin laminates and high-performance epoxy- or silicone-resin grades. The component price is determined mainly by sheet thickness, dimensions, material utilisation, machining effort and batch size. We are happy to provide binding prices on request based on your drawing.
4When is MF GC 201 not the right choice?+
MF GC 201 is not declared for direct food contact - the cotton-reinforced grade MF CC 201 (Hgw 2282.5) is the right choice for that. For applications requiring very high mechanical strength, Hgw 2372.1 is superior, and for continuous temperatures above 130 °C a silicone-resin laminate is preferable. As a thermoset, MF GC 201 also cannot be reshaped or welded, and machining causes higher tool wear and requires skin protection due to the glass fabric.
