Machining HGW 2572

Glass-fabric laminate with silicone resin - the high-temperature specialty material for electrical insulating parts up to 180 °C with very high tracking resistance (CTI 600).

Material

Overview

HGW 2572 (Hgw 2572 acc. to DIN 7735 / SI GC 202 acc. to EN 60893) belongs to the family of glass-fabric laminates: glass-fabric layers are impregnated with silicone resin and pressed under heat and pressure into sheets or round bars. Compared with phenolic and epoxy resin, silicone resin offers exceptionally high thermal resistance; the colour is characteristically white.

While epoxy-resin glass laminate such as HGW 2372.1, also offered by Liedtke, reaches its thermal limit around 130 °C, and cotton-fabric laminate such as HGW 2082 around 110-120 °C, HGW 2572 withstands continuous temperatures of up to 180 °C - combined with very high tracking resistance (CTI 600). As a trade-off, the basic mechanical values are somewhat lower than those of HGW 2372.1. We also offer a US-market designation variant of this material as HGW 2572-F2.

Typical applications include slot insulation in electric motors and generators with high operating temperature, insulating parts in transformer and coil construction, components in heating and thermal engineering, and high-temperature insulating parts in aerospace and rail technology.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions about HGW 2572

1What is HGW 2572?+

HGW 2572 is a glass-fabric-reinforced silicone-resin laminate per DIN 7735 / EN 60893 (SI GC 202). It is designed for very high continuous-use temperature resistance (up to 180 °C) and very high tracking resistance (CTI 600) - the highest values among the fabric-laminate grades in Liedtke's range.

2How does Liedtke machine HGW 2572?+

We saw, mill, drill and turn HGW 2572 with sharp, carbide-tipped or diamond-coated tools into dimensionally accurate precision parts. We ensure adequate dust extraction during machining, as glass fibre dust is generated.

3What determines the price of an HGW 2572 part?+

The component price is determined mainly by sheet thickness, dimensions, material utilisation (offcuts), machining effort and batch size. HGW 2572 is the premium material among the fabric laminates in Liedtke's range, as silicone resin is more expensive. We are happy to provide binding prices on request based on your drawing.

4When is HGW 2572 not the right choice?+

HGW 2572 is not declared for direct food contact. Without a particular temperature requirement, an epoxy or cotton-fabric laminate is more economical; for applications requiring very high mechanical strength, HGW 2372.1 is superior.
