Machining HGW 2082

Cotton-fabric laminate with phenolic resin - the economical standard fabric laminate for mechanically robust insulating and structural parts in the low-voltage range.

Material

Overview

HGW 2082 (Hgw 2082 acc. to DIN 7735 / PF CC 201 acc. to EN 60893) is a fabric laminate made of cotton-fabric-reinforced phenolic resin. Fabric layers are impregnated with the thermosetting resin and pressed under heat and pressure into sheets, round bars or tubes; the cured material is dimensionally stable, hard and mechanically robust. The colour is typically brown.

Within the cotton-fabric-laminate family, HGW 2082 marks the mid-range, economical standard grade: solid mechanical strength and good electrical insulation, but without the finer fabric structure and higher strength of HGW 2083, also offered by Liedtke, which represents the higher-grade variant of this material family. For most general mechanical and low-voltage electrical applications, HGW 2082 is the most economical choice.

Typical applications include insulating and partition panels in low-voltage switchgear technology, gears, cams and sliding elements in mechanical engineering, as well as jig and fixture components, spacers and brackets.

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions about HGW 2082

1What is HGW 2082?+

HGW 2082 is a fabric laminate made of cotton-fabric-reinforced phenolic resin per DIN 7735 / EN 60893 (PF CC 201). It is the economical mechanical and electrical standard grade among cotton-fabric laminates, combining good mechanical strength with solid electrical insulation properties.

2How does Liedtke machine HGW 2082?+

We saw, mill, drill and turn HGW 2082 with sharp, carbide-tipped tools into dimensionally accurate precision parts. We ensure adequate dust extraction during machining, as resin and fabric dust is generated.

3What determines the price of an HGW 2082 part?+

The component price is determined mainly by sheet thickness or bar diameter, dimensions, material utilisation (offcuts), machining effort and batch size. HGW 2082 is the most economical fabric laminate in the cotton range. We are happy to provide binding prices on request based on your drawing.

4When is HGW 2082 not the right choice?+

HGW 2082 is not declared for direct food contact. For medium-voltage applications with high tracking-resistance requirements (CTI above 200) or continuous use above approximately 110 °C, materials such as HGW 2372.1 or melamine-resin-bonded grades are better suited; the hygroscopic cotton fabric also reaches its limits in very humid environments.
