What is Exolon AR?
Exolon AR is a polycarbonate sheet with an abrasion-resistant coating on both sides: a glass-hard, abrasion-resistant coating (Taber test) is permanently bonded to the impact-resistant PC core, making the sheet particularly resistant to scratching and mechanical wear without losing polycarbonate's high light transmission (up to 88%) and impact strength.

Exolon AR is a polycarbonate sheet with an abrasion-resistant coating on both sides, offering glass-like surface hardness together with high impact strength and light transmission up to 88%.
2How does Liedtke machine Exolon AR?+
We saw, mill and drill Exolon AR like standard polycarbonate; the machined edge naturally remains uncoated. Thermoforming is not possible.
3When should I choose Exolon AR?+
Because it combines scratch resistance, impact strength and optical clarity, Exolon AR is preferred wherever glazing is cleaned frequently, must withstand high footfall, or needs protection against deliberate damage:
- Noise barriers
- Glazing in educational facilities
- Glazing in healthcare facilities
- Correctional and psychiatric facilities
- Machine guards (chemical-resistant)
4What determines the price of an Exolon AR cut piece?+
The price depends mainly on sheet thickness, sheet size, machining effort and quantity. We are happy to provide a binding quote based on your drawing.
5When is Exolon AR not the right choice?+
If the sheet needs to be thermoformed, Exolon AR is not suitable - the uncoated Exolon GP is the right choice here. The surface coating is also not declared as food-safe.
6Advantages and disadvantages of Exolon AR+
An honest assessment:
- Advantage: Glass-like, scratch-resistant surface on both sides
- Advantage: High impact strength, practically unbreakable
- Advantage: High light transmission at low weight compared with glass
- Advantage: Chemical resistant
- Advantage: Building material class B2 to DIN 4102 (thickness 3–12 mm, clear)
- Disadvantage: Coating not suitable for thermoforming
- Disadvantage: Edge finishing mechanical only (no hot bending)
- Disadvantage: Coating not verified for food contact
