What is PET FG blue?
PET FG blue is a polyethylene terephthalate in a food grade compound (FG). It offers high strength and stiffness, a low tendency to creep, very low moisture absorption and excellent sliding properties. The blue colouring makes plastic parts and particles easier to detect visually in food-processing environments.

PET FG blue in detail
1What is PET FG blue?+
PET FG blue is a polyethylene terephthalate in a food grade compound (FG). It offers high strength and stiffness, a low tendency to creep, very low moisture absorption and excellent sliding properties. The blue colouring makes plastic parts and particles easier to detect visually in food-processing environments. PET is sensitive to hydrolysis: cleaning with hot water above approx. 60 °C or steam is not recommended (risk of stress cracking).
2How does Liedtke machine PET FG blue?+
PET FG blue can be machined excellently using all conventional cutting methods; HSS or carbide tools are sufficient. Good cooling via chip removal avoids heat build-up; sharp edges and notches in the part should be avoided because of the low notched impact strength. For components with food contact, we use food-compatible cooling lubricants and supply with batch traceability on request.
3When should I choose PET FG blue?+
PET FG blue is used wherever dimensionally stable, wear-resistant sliding and functional parts come into contact with foodstuffs, for example in the food and packaging industry and in mechanical engineering for filling and conveyor systems:
- Sliding and guide elements in filling lines
- Format parts, star wheels and guide rails
- Precision parts with high dimensional stability
4What determines the price of a PET FG blue part?+
PET FG blue is calculated individually based on drawing or sample. The part price is mainly determined by the stock form and dimension, material utilisation (waste), machining effort and batch size. We are happy to quote binding prices on request.
5When is PET FG blue not the right choice?+
Just as important are the limits of the material:
- Not resistant to hot water above approx. 60 °C and steam (hydrolysis)
- Low notched impact strength
- Not resistant to strong alkalis and some solvents
6Advantages and disadvantages of PET FG blue+
An honest assessment:
- Advantage: Compound designed for food contact
- Advantage: High strength and stiffness, low tendency to creep
- Advantage: Very good sliding properties, high wear resistance
- Advantage: Very low moisture absorption, high dimensional stability
- Disadvantage: Not resistant to hot water above approx. 60 °C and steam (hydrolysis)
- Disadvantage: Low notched impact strength
- Disadvantage: Not resistant to strong alkalis and some solvents
Typical properties
- Compound suitable for food contact
- High strength and very good sliding properties
- Blue colouring for visual detectability
Typical industries
- Food Industry
- Packaging Industry
- Mechanical Engineering
